Since we last checked in, we announced a new partnership with the National Audubon Society. This comes just in time to raise awareness about the devastating impact light pollution has on migratory birds during fall migration. 

On top of that exciting news, we have announced the designation of five new International Dark Sky Places: Davagh Forest Park, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Timpanogos Cave National Monument, Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, and the Slumgullion Center. This is such an incredible accomplishment in the battle to preserve the night. 

Additionally, we are featuring the work of IDA Delegate Vitor Barbato Honorato in Brazil.

Davagh Forest Park Becomes First International Dark Sky Place in Northern Ireland

Davagh Forest Park has become only the second place on the island of Ireland — and the first in the north — to be accredited as an IDA International Dark Sky Park. 

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Named World's Largest International Dark Sky Sanctuary

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is now a certified International Dark Sky Sanctuary – and at 1,098,000 acres in size, it is the world's largest!

Timpanogos Cave National Monument Named Second Urban Night Sky Place

This is only the second International Dark Sky Place to receive this special designation that draws attention to the role urban protected landscapes play in raising public awareness of light pollution.

Historic Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute Designated as International Dark Sky Park

Nestled in the mountains of the Pisgah National Forest at a former historic NASA facility, the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) in Transylvania County has been awarded the prestigious designation of International Dark Sky Park.

Slumgullion Center International Dark Sky Park Designation Approved

Hinsdale County is now home to the newest International Dark Sky Park. The Lake Fork Valley Conservancy’s application to designate the 58-acre Slumgullion Center has been approved.
